Mango puree from Trader Joe's

I finally found it! I did not believe it existed but kept looking for it anyway. Pure, 100% one-ingredient mango puree. No preservatives, no added sugar, citric acid, vitamin C etc. Thank you Trader Joe's!

The twins love it straight, stirred in yogurt, shaken with milk and just about anyway I offer it to them.

Multigrain mix from Trader Joe's

The multigrains in this multigrain baking and pancake mix from Trader Joe's are wheat, whole wheat, rolled oats, yellow cornmeal, wheat bran, oat bran and brown rice flour. What I don't like about it is that the first ingredient is unbleached enriched flour. What I truely hate is the sodium - 500 mg for 1/3 cup of mix, 21% for an adult. Which is why I won't be buying it again.

The kids love any kind of pancakes as long as they come with a good amout of 'syllllup.'

Trader Jose's gorditas

I picked up these gorditas from Trader Joe's for the adults. The kids took one look and demanded I feed them 'paancakkes.' I like most of Trader Joe's products but this one was a miss - there should be more filling and the calories/fat are just not worth so little filling.

The kids didn't like what they thought were pancakes either.

Trader Jose's chicken & cheese tamales

I can make a mean salsa (hello Chipotle copycat recipes!) and decent fajitas (lived in Texas for a while) but tamales, no way. I really like these chicken and cheese tamales from Trader Joe's. The twins peel off the outer layer and eat it with relish but the chicken and cheese stuffing travels to the edges of the high chair.

Iam starting to see a pattern here I think.

Trader Joe's vacuum fried pineapple chips

Unlike the freeze dried fruits from Trader Joe's, these pineapple chips are vacuum fried. The chips have a wonderful caramalized taste and are not greasy at all. BUT they are cut thick and very crunchy and that threw the twins off. They will eat them some days and won't touch them on other days.

Trader Joe's freeze dried fruit

The twins are really into freeze dried fruits and veggies these days. These freeze dried mango, banana and strawberry from Trader Joe's - success! Also, all one ingredient items - a big YAY.

My son likes the mangoes and my daughter the 'stawbeyye.' They both accept the banana only when we run out of fresh ones.

Apparently, they also carry freeze dried lychees, dragon fruit and mangosteen! I have yet to find them in the Trader Joe's I go to.

Trader Joe's mango yogurt parfait

It has mango in it so of course I had to try it. Trader Joe's is a mixed bag when it comes to yogurts and this one is a hit. Probably has something to do with the 23 grams of sugar in it. I diluted it with full fat yogurt and split it between the two.

Boysenberry preserve from Trader Joe's

My only association with boysenberries BC, was the boysenberry syrup at IHOP. I'd make DH take me there at least a couple of times a month to order two pancakes and go through 3 or 4 bottles of boysenberry syrup. In my defense they were really small bottles. I think I actually emailed IHOP asking about how I can get my hands on a vat of it.

This boysenberry preserve from Trader Joe's is a bit tart and very grainy - not like a fig but just larger and more prominent like a raspberry. I was a bit apprehensive but the kids ate it up with yogurt.

Frozen raspberries from Trader Joe's

Happy Birthday America!

Since summer is here I decided not to buy frozen berries anymore. But the kids like some sort of fruit sauce in the morning with banana and cereal. So they get fresh fruits as a snack anytime during the day, and fruit sauce for breakfast.

These raspberries from Trader Joe's are a miss - they were just too tart to use straight. So now I have a bag of cubed tart raspberry sauce that I am trying to sneak into the kids.

I won! Two awards!! Sarah at Mommy Lite found my blog worthy - Thank you Sarah very very much.

To accept and be able to brag about my awards I have to share 10 things about myself and pass the award onto 10 other awesome bloggers. I will as soon as we move - we are leaving monday morning and driving through 5 states - so help me God. The moving trucks will get there when they get there. I will fully accept my award next weekend.

Thanks again Sarah.

Apple watermelon fruity flakes from Trader Joe's

These apple watermelon fruit-flakes from Trader Joe's are tough - like fruit leather. I didn't figure it out (missed the 'little dried fruit snacks' description) in the store and when I opened the packet at home I was disappointed. Still, I decided to let the twins have a go at it while keeping a close eye on them (choking hazard.)

My daughter spat out the very first bit but my son loved them. He ate a whole pouch and wanted more!

Mango chunks from Trader Joe's

After being very impressed with frozen mango halves from Trader's Joe's, I picked up these mango chunks because they were cheaper. Well, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. These were tart. The texture and consistency was good but the taste was really tart.

The twins puckered up and spat out the very first spoonful. Now I add one mango cube to a whole mashed banana or a cup of pear sauce to get them to eat. Once these food cubes are done, I will switch back to frozen mango halves.

Protein with pizazz from Trader Joe's

This protein with pizazz from Trader Joe's has 20 grams protein, 250 calories per serving and more fat/sat fat and cholesterol than Odwalla and Naked Juice protein drinks.

This is the chalkiest tasting drink I ever had. The twins refused (28 grams of sugar too!) to drink it straight, and also rejected it mixed with milk. I add a few spoonfuls to their breakfast cereal or mashed banana and they will eat it but look at me very suspiciously.

Very cherry berry blend from Trader Joe's

Of the many frozen berry blends out there this is the only one I came across that has cherries in it. The bag warned that there may be cherry pits which I ignored and started to food cube. Sure enough I heard it (Iam guessing only one but I don't know) and tried to fish it out. Now every time I thaw the very cherry berry blend cubes I am looking for a cherry pit.

The puree is not too sweet or tart. It is very grainy and the twins eat it either with their mashed banana or applesauce or baby cereal. Since they haven't had it straight yet I don't know if they like it or not.

Frozen mango halves from Trader Joe's

After the success with frozen avocado halves from Trader Joe's, I had to try these frozen mango halves. Score one more for Trader Joe's! I food cubed these and the puree came out creamy, smooth and thick. AND held that consistency when I later thawed them for the twins breakfast.
The mango puree did have a little tartness to it, which the twins seemed to actually like. My son ate it straight but my daughter did better with a few spoons of mashed banana mixed in.

Greek yogurt from Trader Joe's

Another winner from Trader Joe's - pomegranate greek yogurt without any arils and no chalky texture either. At this time the chalky texture is my issue - the twins love any and all kinds of yogurt.

Fig bars from Trader Joe's

I have tried fig newtons and the twins eat them but sometimes they choke and sputter and throw up because it gets stuck to the roof of their mouth. So I have been on the lookout for an alternative and when I came across these fig bars at Trader Joe's I had to try them.

Success! These bars are even softer than fig newtons and literally melt in your mouth. The first time I gave it to them, it took me forever to get the paste out of my daughter's hair. I hand feed them for now and the first time I did my son hooted like an owl and ran around in circles - he likes them. a lot.

Pear sauce from Trader Joe's

With the twins at 14 months Iam always wondering about the texture of their food. Since they don't have molars yet, it has to be soft but then even Iam bored with feeding them pasty mush.

This pear sauce from Trader Joe's is not as smooth as apple sauce and not as chunky as chunky apple sauce - it's almost like grated or fork mashed soft pears. I add it to their breakfast cereal for an even more interesting texture.

Frozen avocado from Trader Joe's

Another great find - frozen avocado halves from Trader Joe's. I want the twins to get the good fats from avocados but my problem starts with not knowing how to pick the right/ripe ones. They HAVE to be ripe when I buy them because if I leave them around to ripen for a few days I forget that they are there. Second is the fact that I cannot use a whole avocado at once and again if I store a half I forget it's there.

The frozen halves are individually shrink wrapped and thaw beautifully. I actually nuked it in the microwave (and not in cold water or in the fridge overnight as the instructions say) and it still came out perfect - soft and creamy - no lumps, strings, hard edges etc.

I fork mashed the nuked half and mixed it into their multigrain cereal. Both of them ate it without any complaints.
